Being an insomniac, I decided to at least be productive and create this blog.
I chose Sarcinatrix as my title because I'm a Latin geek and I do sew for fun. I really began sewing while getting my BA in English at UCLA... the theater department was kind enough to let me take their costume construction class on Saturdays for a year.
I have been an assistant costume designer for three plays and have designed and constructed a wedding gown, but it really is just a hobby. I don't think I would ever have the patience and the drive to sew for a living. Plus, I really consider myself an amateur. There is so much I don't know. I'm definitely not an expert.
I love watching Project Runway because it gets me inspired. They are so talented. I'm usually sewing as I'm watching.
I've been wanting to create a blog about my sewing for a while now, but I never got around to it until now. But with the encouragement of my friends, I decided to take the plunge.
I just finished making a Regency gown for a 4 year old. It's really not historically accurate, but it does have an empire waist and she loved it. As long as the client is happy, I'm happy.
Currently, I am working on an evening gown for myself using this lovely green/brown chiffon fabric I bought while in Rome. It's already gathered with elastics so it's already interesting on its own. So I am making a very basic foundation with dark green lining and will tack the chiffon onto the lining.
I don't have a digital camera so you will have to wait for the picture posts.
